How to colour correct your face with makeup

Hey hey hey,

Colour correcting isn't necessary for your makeup application but if you want your foundation or your base makeup to look flawless then colour correcting is a must. If you are a beginner in makeup and you're wondering what is colour correcting then let me tell you what it is.

What is colour correcting?
Colour correcting is a colour concealer that is designed to hide skin imperfections such as redness, dark under eye bags, dark spots etc. Colour correcting is basically a step in your makeup application to remove any colour tones you have in your skin that you want to hide. Sometimes when you apply your foundation you can still see your redness or your blemishes and in this case, that is when colour correcting comes in, to hide all of your imperfections before you apply your foundation so it doesn't show through your applications.

There are certain colours that you need to hide your imperfections. I'm going to show you why you need to learn how to use the colour wheal when doing your makeup. Once you have learned how to use the colour wheel and how to use it in your makeup applications then doing your makeup will become a little bit easier for you to know what colour goes with what and so forth.

So looking straight on to the colour wheel can you see that certain colours are on one side and the other colours are on the other side? now back to talking about makeup, so say if you have redness on your cheeks that you would like to hide,  the colour on the side opposite to red is green is there for you to counteract the redness out. Apply a green based concealer before you apply your foundation and blend that into your skin, did you see that? the redness disappeared.

Whenever you have discolouration on your skin think of the colour wheel and whatever is on the opposite side counteracts the colour.

What happens if you have a different colour other then red? well if that is the case then the same rules apply. Take the same steps as I said above and use that in your application, find a concealer that will work for your discolouration and bam it will disappear.

Each skin tones do have different discolouration, here is the list of concealer colours you should be focusing on if you are experiencing these.

Pale pink: Target blue - toned spots on fair skin
Peach: neutralises blue/purple shadows on medium skin
Orangey-pink: Cancels out dark spots on dark skin tones
Yellow: Conceals purple or dark toned shadows on olive or tan skin
Green: Camouflages redness
Lavender: cancels out yellow tones

Now you got this far in my blog post and you have a basic idea on what colour correcting is, and your thinking okay I get the idea of this but what do I use? what brands sell these types of products.
Well girl, I gotcha. So many brands these days cater for colour correcting products, most brands have their own palette with concealers that fit each skin tone.

I recommend getting a palette instead of a single concealer because it will be a little bit cheaper for you.

Here is a list of products from brands I recommend.

I also recommend if you redness all over your skin get a primer that is a green undertone base to remove your redness and then do the colour correcting steps. Getting a primer that is for colour correcting is also a must because it will make your application faster since it will cover more.

Thank you for reading this blog post, I hope you learnt something from this!
