How to find your perfect foundation shade

How to find your perfect foundation shade, wow. I personally think foundation is the main part of your makeup routine (besides eyebrows of course) if you picked the wrong foundation then that can totally throw your makeup off.  If you haven't read my previous blog post all about "undertones" then I totally recommend you to, knowing what undertone you are can help you pick the right foundation shade.

In the picture above might look like I have a nice defined contour but you're wrong, back then I didn't know what contouring was let alone cream contouring. That just goes to show how dark my foundation was, not because I was doing the duck face and had a heap of bronzer on ( so embarrassing)

We've all gone through the stage of first starting out in makeup and picking 3 shades too dark for your skin, we've all been through it but today I'm here to help you out to give you a guide on how to pick the perfect shade for you.

Once you have learnt what undertone is then that will make picking your shade a little bit easier for you. if you haven't read it yet then, pause reading this blog post and click here to read that blog post before you continue onto this post.
Do's and Don'ts

Don'ts
Make sure when picking a foundation shade in a store you don't swipe it on the back of your hand, we've all made this mistake when picking your shade out but in fact its the wrong place to put your foundation because if you haven't noticed your arm is the darkest parts of your body.

Do
Apply your foundation on the bottom of your jaw and apply three different shades and blend them in with a cotton tip.

Don't
Don't buy your foundation straight away as you have put the swatches on your jaw because most foundation oxidise (dry 2-3 shades darker then what the shade originally was)

DO
Walk outside after applying your shades, wait a couple of minutes for your foundation to dry and then go back

General tips:
  • Make sure you prime and Hydrate your skin previously before applying your foundation for a flawless base.
  • Use a little bit of foundation when you first apply because its best to add than remove.
  • A little goes a long way
  • Always set with powder
  • Do concealer after foundation
  • Always set your foundation with a setting spray if you want it to last all day
  • Apply with a beauty blender or brush if you want to have a flawless base ( never with your fingers)
  • Always wet your beauty blender if you don't want a full coverage foundation if you want a full coverage foundation then leave it dry.
  • Use a translucent powder to make sure your powder doesn't add colour to your face and makes your foundation look darker.
  • When applying foundation with a brush make sure you brush the foundation the right way, always press into the skin so you don't leave streaks onto your face.
  • when applying with a beauty blender dab/bounce your foundation onto the skin.
